Vietnam Institute of Economics, hereinafter ‘the Institute’, is a research institution under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences. Its fundamental function is to study theoretical and practical issues of Vietnam’s economy in the context of international economic integration. The institute also provides scientific arguments for the Vietnamese Communist Party and the Vietnamese Government to serve the making of socio-economic development guidelines, strategies, and policies. Another function of the Institute includes provision of graduate education and training in economics to contribute to the development of human resources of the country.

Vietnam Institute of Economics has the legal status with its own seal and banking account, and operates with a state-funded budget as prescribed by law. The Institute is a sub-unit and financially-planned by the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.

Vietnam Institute of Economics is placed in Hanoi and known in short as “VIE”.
