Scientific Conference on “Ha Tinh's Green Transformation and Growth for Sustainable, Prosperous, and Secure Development in the New Context”

Ha Tinh Province, August 10, 2024 – The People’s Committee of Ha Tinh Province, in collaboration with the Vietnam Institute of Economics (under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences) and the Ha Tinh Sustainable Development Advisory Group in Hanoi, organized a scientific conference titled “Ha Tinh's Green Transformation and Growth for Sustainable, Prosperous, and Secure Development in the New Context.”

Leadership and Participation
The conference was chaired by notable leaders, including Hoang Trung Dung, Member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee; Vo Trong Hai, Chairman of the Ha Tinh People’s Committee; Prof. Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan, former President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and Head of the Advisory Group; Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Hoa, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Water Resources Science; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Thien, Member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Group and former Director of the Vietnam Institute of Economics.

The event gathered experts, scientists, policymakers, and leaders from government agencies, associations, and businesses, alongside representatives from the media.

Opening Remarks
Chairman Vo Trong Hai emphasized Ha Tinh’s significant progress in socio-economic development, with major industrial projects contributing to national growth. He reiterated that green transformation and growth are pivotal to the province’s development strategy, as outlined in the Provincial Action Plan on Green Growth, approved on April 2, 2024 (Decision 778/QD-UBND).

The plan defines key goals and solutions, emphasizing sustainable economic models, resource efficiency, digital transformation, and green urbanization. The ultimate aim is to improve the quality of life and resilience of residents while ensuring no one is left behind in the green transition.

Key Insights from Presentations
Prof. Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan discussed global trends in green growth, highlighting Vietnam’s efforts to align its strategies with international standards. He noted that 46 provinces and municipalities in Vietnam have developed green growth action plans, contributing $7.2 billion and creating 500,000 green jobs in 2021.

Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Thien presented on Ha Tinh’s green development potential in the context of global transformations. He emphasized the need for clear strategies, robust legal frameworks, and pilot projects in emerging technologies.

Experts also discussed the integration of green tourism, renewable energy, circular economy practices, and sustainable agriculture in Ha Tinh. Case studies from Germany, Japan, and South Korea were highlighted as models for local adaptation.

Challenges and Recommendations
Participants identified bottlenecks in policy implementation and financing mechanisms that need to be addressed. They proposed:
